Thank you for deciding to volunteer for the Barclay Brook/Brookside PTA Executive Board. Executive Board Members are asked to chair or co-chair two committees. Below is a brief description of our committees: (e)=evening. The majority of time required on these committees is during evening hours. (d)=daytime. The majority of time required on these committees is during daytime hours. Applegarth Liason (e): Attend Applegarth PTO meetings and communicate information to our membership. Barclay Brook Class Shirts (d): Order and distribute class shirts to the students used for class trips and field day (September). Board of Education (e): attend bi-monthly (every other Wednesday @ MTHS, 7:00 P.M.) BOE Meeting (s) and report relevant information to the Executive Board at our monthly meeting. Book Fair (d/e): Organize twice yearly sale of Scholastic Books. Brookside Field Day Shirts (d): Order and distribute shirts to the students used for field day (Feb/Mar). Bulletins and Fliers (e): Copy all PTA-generated materials and organize for distribution to appropriate classrooms. General Mills Boxtops (e): Organize collection of box tops to be sent to General Mills in the spring. Cash for Trash (e): Organize and maintain our cash for trash program. Circus Around the World (d): Assist second grade teachers, principal and Artist in Residence Kevin O’Keefe in the production of “Circus Around the World,” performed by the second grade in early May. Community Relations (d,e): Meet with other PTA and BOE officials to reach community goals. Cultural Arts (d, e): Book PTA sponsored Assemblies for both schools. Cultural Fair (d): Organize a fun and educational event to teach our students diversity and to learn about different cultures from around the world. Entertainment Books (d): Organize the sale & distribution of Entertainment Coupon Books as part of our schools fundraiser (fall). Family Game Show Night (e): Organize the Family Game Show event, which consists of a high energy and fun game of wits and physical challenges in the style of Nickelodeons “Double Dare” Show. Father/Child Event (e): This event is for our kindergarten and first grade students to share the day with dad! Usually lunch and entertainment on a Saturday afternoon. Advance ticket sales necessary. Field Day (d): Arrange and distribute ice pops (BB & BS) and water (BB) to our students during our annual field day. Flower shop (d): Order, receive and sell flowers to children in both schools (early May). Fundraising (e): Choose, organize and distribute annual fundraiser(s) for both schools (early fall, possibly spring). Go Green! (d,e): Environmental awareness committee, inform parents on how to be responsible stewards of our land, so that our children will have a healthy future. Organize and sell reusable shopping bags. High School Liaison (e): Attend HS PTO Meetings and communicate information to our membership. Holiday Shop (d, e): Purchase goods, decorate schools and sell merchandise to students at the annual PTA sponsored Holiday Shop. (December) Hospitality (d, e): Organize refreshments for monthly Executive Board Meetings and various other PTA related events. Ice Cream Bingo (e): Organize and run annual Ice Cream Bingo Event. Advance ticket sales necessary. Ice Cream Social (d): Organize and run annual Ice Cream Social Event for new kindergarteners and their parents (August) Kids’ Art (e): Work with vendor, art teachers, students and parents to generate and publish art created by students. Legislative Action (e): Inform parents about local, school-related legislation and elections. Make a Difference Day (d, e): Organize Blood Drive and any other charity-related activity. Membership (e): Generate forms/cards, collect funds and enter information into a MS Excel database for General PTA Membership. Knowledge of MS Excel is helpful. Principal’s List (d, e): Work with Mrs. Alvich to determine appropriate reward for 5th and 6th grade students achieving Principal’s List honors. Pumpkin Patch (d): Receive and distribute pumpkins to students in both schools (October). Pumpkin Carving (e): Organize Family pumpkin carving event (Autumn). Read Across America (d, e): Organize literature/literary contest for all grade levels to coordinate with National Read Across America Day (March 2). Room Parents (d, e): Coordinate with teachers and principals in both schools to facilitate their choosing room parents for every class and informing the room parents of their responsibilities (over by early fall, knowledge of MS Excel is helpful). School Store (d): Stock and sell items for bi-weekly school store at both schools. (Every other Wednesday at BB and every other Friday at BS, year round) School Tool Box (d, e): Organize sale of supplies for the first day of school. Sixth Grade Awards Assembly (d, e): Arrange and distribute refreshments and arrange with teachers “entertainment pads” to 6th grade students after Awards Assembly (June). Sixth Grade Dance (e): Organize end of the year celebration for sixth graders (June). Spirit Wear (d, e): Organize sale of t-shirts, sweatshirts and miscellaneous items to students and community. Teacher Appreciation (d): Organize teacher appreciation activities for teacher appreciation week in May (usually a breakfast/luncheon). Tricky Tray (e): Organize Tricky Tray fundraiser Variety Show (e): Organize production of the Annual PTA Variety Show. Includes acts of all ages from both schools (spring). Vendor Fair (d, e): Organize event for local vendors to advertise and sell their crafts/products (Spring). Volunteer Lists (e): Collect data from volunteer forms, enter into a MS Excel database, and disseminate information to the appropriate committee chair (s). Knowledge of MS Excel is helpful. Yearbook (d, e): Create and publish Yearbook for distribution to students at the end of the school year. Photography, editing, and sales skills are all helpful. Web Site (d,e): Update the PTA web site of all upcoming events and helpful information.
